Good Eggs Do Yoga

Writer: Stephanie SmithStephanie Smith

A play on the children's book “The Good Egg”

Here's a fun yoga story to share with your preschoolers about being kind and managing emotions when friends may be too close for comfort.

In an egg carton, there are a dozen eggs in all sorts of different shapes and sizes.

There’s the Plain ol’ egg. He sits in the egg carton. Standing still.

There’s the Sunny side up egg. He has his arms up high, greeting the sun.

There’s the Over easy egg. He bends down touching his toes.

There’s the Deviled egg. He bends low, and has small horns on his head.

There’s the Hard boiled egg. He has his hands and feet on the ground, his hips high in the air.

There’s the Scrambled egg— He lay flat on stomach

And finally, there’s the Egg in a hole—He curls himself into a ball and rests.

The eggs still snuggly in their egg carton, each fitting in their own small nook. But they don’t always get along.

Sometimes an egg rolls away from its friends.

Other eggs sometimes feel cracks in their shells.

When there's trouble, the eggs know exactly what to do.

They take a deep breath.

Close their eyes.

And count to three.

One. Two.

Three.

Phhhwwwweeeehhhhhhh!

There! The eggs feel better.

The cracks in their shells disappear.

The runaway eggs roll back to the carton.

The eggs feel happy, and love each other again.

All of the eggs, in all of their different forms, settle into their little nooks, happy and calm.

A dozen happy eggs sit peacefully

In one egg carton.
